Welcome to the Gansevoort Turks and Caicos where I gave my friends a quick tutorial on how to stand up paddle board. It’s super easy, scroll down to see for yourself…
Step 1: Fasten the paddle board leash to your ankle and stand around looking cool like me
Tip: Don’t start out on a board too small for you, when in doubt always go wider and thicker!
Step 2: Wade out and get the board into the water so the fin is free from hitting the bottom. If there is a wake to pass, do so while holding tight to your board
Step 3: Lie on your board and paddle out to calm and flat water. If you’re lazy and cheating like Xavier, hold on to someone else’s board while they do all the work
Step 4: Slowly get on your knees, take a few strokes on each side with your paddle, making sure to adjust your balance so your weight is evenly distributed
Step 5: Stand up by stepping one foot up at a time, keep you core tight and your gaze on the horizon to help balance. Keep your feet parallel and spread shoulder width apart. If all feels well, paddle LEFT!
Step 6: Paddle RIGHT
Tip: Always grip the paddle with one hand on the top of the paddle and the other on the center of the shaft. Hold the paddle in front of you, with your elbows bent at 90 degrees.
To see me get up on my board and generally tease my friends/students… Watch below
AND Just in case you were wondering how I capture footage in water without being worried to f up my phone… I have a lifeproof case. This case has changed my life seriously AND IS ONLY 40 BUCKS!. I can fully submerge it in water, swim with it, play in sand with it without worrying. Also saves lives in the snow or when a friendly baby or toddler dribbles/spills all on you!!!
