Believe it or not, but most of my tropical getaways happen on the weekend. I work Monday through Thursday then usually leave Thursday night or Friday morning. Last week, I had the joy of having my tropical sister Coco here in LA but with a busy week for us both (including a really fun adidas Soccer event) and her flight being on a Saturday night, didn’t give us much time to do something tropical, right? WRONG!Coco is wearing Monday Swimwear and me Acacia swimwear
We had actually got a beautiful invite for that day to my dear friend Affy’s house in Hermosa Beach and geographically that worked perfect to go watch the sunset there and then drop Coco at LAX. Now if you live or have visited LA, you know how spread out the city is and how if running errands or making plans, figuring out your day according to areas is a must! I asked Affy if she knew of any cool hikes or things to do by her house and boy did she give me a gem! She said one of the best spas in the world, Terranea Resort in Palos Verdes, was about 25 minutes from her and you can also hike from the property.
I was thinking “How have I never heard of this place?” “How haven’t I brought my mother?” and “PLEASE tell me they will have appointments free for us”. I rushed Affy off the phone so I could call and was elated when the spa had two massage spots free! The lady on the phone had her soothing spa voice on and told me we could use the facilities all day and wouldn’t have to pay for valet either… Score! The drive was an easy 50 minutes from Beverly Hills and had some stunning coastal backdrops. The Terranea Resort has two pools and I’ve always preferred spa pools so it was perfect. Spa pools are not as crowded, no kids allowed and they have healthy snacks. Not to mention the iced lavender towels, various herbal teas, and naturally flavored water. I enjoyed an incredible massage, though my sister tweeted that hers was better, I doubt it!Not to be crude and talk about money (this was after all a treat for my sister’s birthday) but this day of insane pampering in such a stunning place felt like a $1000 day, however it was significantly less. The massages were $220 each (inc tip) and we got to use the sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and pool… ALL DAY.
We ended the day using their fancy showers and products and left positively relaxed and glowing. If you live in California or are just visiting, I highly recommend this resort. Also, if you have an AMEX card, it is part of Destinations Hotels Group, so call your cards concierge to get some extra benefits (if you don’t have an AMEX card what are you waiting for they are litearlly the best!).
Very sad to see my sister leave but cannot wait for our next Tropical Adventure.
